About Make Art Rx
Art-making has always been essential to my wellbeing. Beginning as a necessity, my arts practice continues to help me cope with living with a chronic illness. In 2020, I founded Studio Dumont as a platform to share my practice and to disseminate hope to others.. While moving through this transition between a private to public arts practice, I have created Make Art Rx as a more specific community environment with which I will advocate for the use of art as a healing modality. The path of creative discovery can deliver continuous and deep self-care.
My career began as a clinician where I witnessed firsthand the transformative power of art. Promoting health and overall wellness has been a passionate goal of mine and, therefore, I have provided clinical art therapy services in unusually diverse settings. I have approached this by assisting and leading in environments that include inpatient psychiatric units, partial hospitalization programs, intensive outpatient programs, assisted living facilities, and inner-city schools across New York and New Jersey. I encourage my clients through the therapeutic arts to engage with their healing process by creating a safe space and transferable methods that they can carry beyond our sessions.
After spending nearly a decade working as a clinician, I came to the realization that there is a need for art-based educational wellness programs within localized communities. By 2023, I relocated to Fernandina Beach with this goal in mind. I believe that sharing creative methods for engagement outside of a clinical setting will benefit my new Floridian community.
I believe that everyone can benefit from engaging in creative expression. Programs are designed to empower adults to tap into their innate creativity and utilize it as a tool for healing and personal growth.
Starting in 2024 I will be offering services, including:
- Virtual Clinical Art Therapy Sessions
- Therapeutic Art Sessions
- Art Workshops
- Community Outreach Programs
My mission is to enliven creativity regardless of a person’s background, skillset or ability. I strive to create safe and inclusive spaces where people can explore their emotions, find solace, and discover new ways of expressing themselves through the creative arts. Make Art Rx is dedicated to promoting the use of art as a healing modality and providing accessible art-based wellness programs.
